U.S. Hydropower Relicensing and License Surrender Data and Metadata is a snapshot (as of June 11th, 2024) of locations and key characteristics of U.S. hydropower projects that are in the relicensing or license surrender process.

This dataset contains all code, input data, and data generated for Turner et al. (2024)—“Hydropower capacity factors trending down in the United States”. File descriptions:

The Existing Hydropower Assets (EHA) Plant Database is a geospatially comprehensive point-level dataset containing locations and key characteristics of U.S. hydropower plants that are currently operational.

The Existing Hydropower Asset (EHA) Unit database is a geospatially comprehensive point-level dataset containing locations and key characteristics of U.S. hydropower plant’s turbine units that are currently operational.

US Hydropower Retired Facilities FY2024 database is a geospatially comprehensive point-level dataset containing locations and key characteristics of US hydropower plants that are currently retired.
